Preliminary DNA sequencing results received
According to preliminary estimates, 23% of the samples showed a high content of ancient DNA.
We have completed preliminary sequencing of 32 samples collected by the team during the expedition to the Commander Islands. The results of this work make it possible to assess the quality of the samples and select the most promising ones for further study.
In addition, the data obtained show in which parts of the skeleton of the Steller’s sea cow ancient DNA is best preserved, which is important for further collection of material.
According to preliminary estimates, 23% of the samples showed high (>2.5%) ancient DNA content, which promises a large amount of valuable genetic information during subsequent deep sequencing.
